[ Alzheimer's Care Communities ]
Alzheimer’s care can be found in a variety of senior living settings. Most, if not all, communities will have residents with early Alzheimer’s disease or mild dementia within their general population. But if you have someone who is a threat to wander, one who needs a little more security, there are a couple of options.
Some of the larger communities offer a secured memory care area within their building, called a Special Care Unit. These require some type of code for opening any doors. This option can be found in assisted living communities, personal care communities, and skilled nursing facilities. There are also a few personal care communities dedicated solely to Alzheimer’s and dementia residents. In addition to the added security these settings offer, the accommodations and activities are designed specifically for memory care residents, and the staff has been trained in Alzheimer and dementia care.
For Alzheimer’s care, there are some communities that will offer a variety of apartment sizes for their residents and others will only have studio apartments. Some will charge an all inclusive monthly rate that will be the same amount regardless of the amount of help the staff must give. Other communities will charge a monthly rate for the room, as well as one for the level of care they assess you to need.
