[ Assisted Living Communities ]
Assisted living communities in Kentucky are certified by the Department for Aging and Independent Living. These communities are for those seniors who are still independent, but may need some help with the activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, grooming, transferring, toileting, and eating. Three meals a day are provided, as well as housekeeping, linen service and transportation. There are a variety of activities offered daily within the communities for the residents to enjoy, as well as outings to groceries, restaurants, malls and events.
Assisted living communities can also provide medication reminders to their residents. The resident, family member or outside pharmacy prepares a med planner with the prescriptions. When it is time for the medicine to be taken, the caregiver can get the med planner out, pour the medicine in the resident’s hand, and make sure it is taken. However, they cannot actually touch the medicine. These medication reminders help insure that prescriptions are taken correctly and on a timely basis.
Assisted living can be found in a variety of settings. There are the larger communities which will offer your choice of apartment style – from studio to two bedrooms. There are also small assisted living communities that will only have 15 to 20 residents. Each resident has their own private room and bath, and these surround the common areas of the living room and kitchen.
Some assisted living communities will charge a monthly fee for the apartment you choose, and then an additional fee for the level of care they assess you to need. Other assisted living communities will have an all-inclusive monthly rate, and will be the same amount whether you need minimal assistance or hands on help most of the time.
